od Doors Designer Interiors began in 1994 in Chico, California. California was the epicenter of hot rodding during this time and builders of the likes of Boyd, Brizio, and Buttera were making the world aware of its highly detailed car culture. Blaine Roberts, Rod Doors’ visionary, had recently purchased a thermal forming machine and began renting a unit in an industrial park to produce vacuum-formed components from durable ABS plastic sheets. This was a relatively new process at this time and Roberts initially struggled to develop that “must-have” product, until he struck a friendship with his new industrial park neighbor and up-and-coming custom automobile upholsterer. They helped each other succeed and Roberts developed the ultimate canvas for not only professional upholsterers, but for do-it-yourself car builders as well.

Roberts grew the business by following the NSRA show circuit from coast to coast, conducting seminars at each event, educating street rod builders how to create their own dynamic interiors utilizing durable Rod Doors interior panels. Those early years were magical, and Roberts befriended many car culture icons, legendary artist and car designer Thom Taylor, world-class upholsterer Sid Chavers, and Dave Deal the artist responsible for CARtoons magazine plus the animated Cars movie. Rod Doors still offers many of these timeless designs; the well-liked NSRA Bull in a Roadster artwork is a Dave Deal original.

For the last 22 years, Rod Doors has been obsessed with producing the utmost quality interior products to improve your classic truck. One-piece headliners, rear cab covers, custom door panels, kick panels with speaker pods, and so much more—they now manufacture all of their products in Janesville, Wisconsin, and they firmly believe in bringing back quality manufacturing to the United States.
