ust a couple of decades back, classic trucks, for the most part, were not viewed as vehicles you would consider going fast in. Unlike their muscle car counterparts, trucks were optimized for utility rather than outright performance on the street. But things have been changing these days as many builders in the truck scene have catered to high-speed tendencies and have also become more creative in the styling department.
One such shop is Fat Fender Garage (FFG), which has recently expanded with a huge new base in Gilbert, Arizona. With Jason Noel at the helm of this world-renowned shop, he has assembled a group of the most-talented fabricators on the planet to ensure nothing less than top-notch builds. A little while ago, Jason picked up this ’67 Ford Bumpside F-100 project vehicle and knew his team could make this truck stunning. The team decided to test the limits by creating a truck that could be redefined as a true performance vehicle.
While this F-100 retains a mostly stock appearance, its custom features pay clear homage to the onscreen icon. The truck’s design now incorporates a full-custom hood with scoops, bedside scoops, sharpened body lines, and a reimagined grille and front bumper with spoiler—all encapsulating features found on both the original and newer Bullitt Mustang renditions. The custom dark green paint even mirrors the original movie car’s finish, while modern flair comes in the form of FFG’s Cerakoted door handles and a set of flush-mounted, custom LED taillights. Due to the significantly lowered stance, the bed floor was raised and given a dramatic upgrade: a one-off wood plank surface with a motorized center panel that lifts to showcase a unique view beneath.
At the heart of the truck is a 2017 Ford Gen 2 Coyote engine, boosted by twin Garrett GTX35 turbos and complemented by FFG’s in-house fabricated headers and exhaust. All engine bay tubing was Cerakoted for thermal management and visual appeal. Helping get the truck moving is an automatic 6R80 transmission that manages the nearly 800 hp, and has been meticulously tuned for smooth, reliable power delivery to the Currie 9-inch rearend.
FFG achieved their goal of pushing the limits of what a classic truck could be. They took a vintage Ford workhorse, injected it with the high-octane spirit of the 1968 Mustang GT chase car, and forged a completely new class of performance vehicle. The result is a stunning blend of understated cinema style and outright track-ready capability. Where once a truck was limited to utility, this Bullitt F-100 now stands as the ultimate muscle machine—a fitting, high-horsepower successor to one of film history’s greatest automotive icons, proving that inspiration can lead to unparalleled modern street dominance.
