hen asked how he got involved in the hobby, New Jersey’s Troy Alston simply replied, “I was tired of crashing my motorcycle!” Fair enough! Once that life-saving decision was made, Troy located his first truck project: a ’55 Chevy 3100 he came across for sale on the interwebs. Seemed like everything was moving steadily in the right direction … or so he thought.
As-purchased, Troy’s big-window Apache is resplendent in silver metallic with hot rod red accents and a matching red leather tuck ’n’ roll interior. Sitting on a quartet of Billet Specialties 18- and 20-inch Fuelies with an updated Heidts suspension assisted by Air Lift Performance 3P ride height control and Wilwood brakes at all four corners, the ’59 is powered by a stock 2000 LS drivetrain, cooled by Vintage Air, and informed by a retrofit Dakota Digital VHX gauge cluster. But above and beyond all of that, what I really want to know is, did this acquisition in any way, shape, or form compromise Troy’s other hobby? Let’s hope not!
